Ronald Reagan, "...there's got to be a pony around here..."
One of my favorite Ronald Reagan stories was about optimism. While the story varied over the years the gist was about a young boy who was subjected to a pile of manure. Instead of being put off by it, he climbs in and starts digging. When asked why he was doing that, he proclaimed, "Well, there's got to be a pony around here somewhere." Ronald Reagan believed in America. When he told us we were the greatest nation on earth, there wasn't a hint of shame or even ego - he was simply telling the truth and believing it from the heart. It stands in stark contrast to Barack Obama's "Apology Tours" where he went about the globe and expressed his shame of America. (Wikileaks uncovered communications from Japan to the U.S. asking that Mr. Obama wouldn't come there and apologize for dropping atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. They want China and North Korea to believe that we still have the courage to use maximum force if needed.) In Reagan's day, the crisis' were different from they are now - the Cold War, runaway inflation and extremely high interest rates were among the major issues (one of the minor issues were liberal accusations that the world was experiencing "global cooling" due to man's activity, go figure). President Reagan took on all of the issues with the complete confidence that the United States was built on a foundation that could not be shaken. His patriotism, honor and respect for our forefathers and unyielding belief that good will triumph over evil need to be our inspiration to do what needs to be done to turn this country around.
Like the little boy in Reagan's tale, I find myself looking at Washington D.C. as a huge pile of manure. It seems like common sense has been banished there, and I suppose that to spend our tax dollars on the things that they do requires that logic be suspended. If the pile is high, the pony must be huge too - and it is. If we were to curtail federal spending to its Constitutional limits we could see a financial boon to this country that would elevate our prosperity and prestige to heights beyond what we've ever dreamed. There are still no "viable" alternatives for the world's investors, and if we were to demonstrate financial constraint and re-establish religious and political liberty, businesses domestically and abroad would want to participate in the economic windfall that will surely follow. There are trillions of dollars kept dormant by corporations who won't reinvest (i.e. hire new employees, upgrade equipment & technology), as well as wealthy people who are parked in cash, until there is a stable tax and regulatory environment. Combine an overhaul of the U.S. tax code with a complete rewrite of the EPA & OSHA laws that are limiting industry along with strict spending constraints by the Federal government and all of that money will pour out of CD's and Money Markets paying 1% or less and be moved into the economy to create jobs and prosperity. In less than ten years we could have a national surplus instead of a national debt, with an unlimited horizon of potential to be the world's economic leader as developing countries crave our technology, natural resources and intellectual acumen. Imagine your children being your age and the national debate being about what to do with a $16 trillion surplus. Now, stop imagining and take action. Talk to your friends about the incredible future our country could have if we reclaim our country! We need a strong coalition nationwide that sends a new type of Representative to Washington - people who haven't been there so long that they're convinced nothing can change. The 2010 elections should have sent a wake up call to President Obama, instead, he brushed it off. The 2012 elections will be the most important election in the history of the United States, and I need your support to be your voice in Congress. Please, vote for me in the May 8, 2011 primary, and if you are able, kindly make a donation that's within your means to help me get the word out. Thank you!
